In short: Ewald is in beta and provided as is. It is a research tool that helps you work faster; you remain responsible for checking its results, for the licences of the software you run with it (such as VASP), and for your use of your AI provider and computing resources. Use of the desktop app is also governed by the beta licence.
1. Who these terms are with
These terms are an agreement between you and Rajdeep Boral, the developer of Ewald ("we", "us"). They cover this website and your participation in the Ewald beta programme. By using the site or joining the beta you accept them. If you use Ewald on behalf of a university, lab or company, you confirm you may accept these terms for it.
2. The beta
- Ewald is pre-release software. Features may change, break or be removed, and we may end the beta at any time.
- Places in the founding-lab programme are limited and offered at our discretion.
- Founding-lab pricing (Pro free during the beta, then 50 % off for life) applies to the participating group for as long as it keeps an active subscription, under the paid terms we publish before billing starts.
- We may ask for feedback. Giving it is voluntary; if you do, you let us use it to improve Ewald without owing you anything for it.
3. Scientific results
Ewald combines AI models with deterministic scientific software. AI models can make mistakes, and machine-learned potentials, XRD fits and cost estimates are approximations. Ewald does not replace expert judgement: review every structure, input file, estimate and generated text before relying on it, submitting a job or publishing. Nothing is submitted to a computing cluster without your confirmation.
4. Your responsibilities
- Third-party software and licences. Ewald does not include VASP or its pseudopotentials. You need your own valid licences for any software you run with Ewald, and you must comply with them.
- AI provider. You use your own API key and are responsible for your provider account, its costs and its terms of use. The budget meter and monthly cap are aids, not guarantees of your provider's billing.
- Computing resources. You are responsible for using your cluster allocations within your institution's rules.
- Lawful use. Don't use Ewald to break the law, to infringe others' rights, or for research that is prohibited by applicable export-control or sanctions rules.
5. Intellectual property
Ewald, its software, name and logo belong to Rajdeep Boral. Your data, inputs and results belong to you; we claim no rights in them.
6. No warranty
The site and the beta are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, lost data, lost computing time, AI provider charges, or lost research results arising from your use of Ewald. During the free beta our total liability to you is limited to USD 100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
8. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; we'll change the date above and tell beta users about significant changes by email. You may stop using Ewald at any time. We may suspend access if these terms are breached.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Kolkata, West Bengal have jurisdiction, unless the law of your country gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
